About one month ago, I visited TM Point to register new
Streamyx ADSL Broadband Internet Access account. I saw one leaflet about TM new internet access package, called Home-Hop-Away. It is something like combination between wired and wireless (mobile) broadband connection. The monthly subscription rate for that package was 108RM (during promotion period, now I guess it already goes back to the rate before promotion 148RM something). Then I was thinking whether to take it or just leave it, since I already had Streamyx access at my home which is costs me 88RM/month. Just add 20RM then I will get "extra" service, wireless mobile broadband access (I will refer this as 3G) based on
Celcom 3G/HSDPA wireless broadband (D68 package) ...hmm...quite interesting.
But, there is something that was on my mind about this 3G things. About 1.5 years ago, my friend subscribed 3G internet access from Maxis for >100RM/month. Unfortunately the service was very bad. Even access using dial-up is much faster and more stable than this 3G access (just a few days ago I got know what was
likely cause this problem.)
It took some days for me to think, includes do some internet browsing to get some info about Celcom 3G service, and bought Celcom XPAX prepaid simcard for testing purposes. The reason was simple, I do not want to get experience that my friend had!! So I started to go the Internet by using my
Sony Ericsson P990i, connected via wireless bluetooth to my laptop. The result was surprising me!!! Even though it was not as fast as wifi, but it was enough to convinced me to get the Home-Hop-Away package!!!
It just took 1 working day to register and active the service. They gave me one Celcom
USIM to be used by 3G modem or 3G cellphone. The installation was very easy, just plug the USIM into my cellphone, then I can use it straight away. So now I am able to browse either at home by using existing Streamyx ADSL, and while I am away by using Celcom Wireless Broadband.
Here is the speedtest result of Celcom wireless broadband:
